Since all of us seem to take a liking to makeup...does everyone else seem to
have the problem that I have--a makeup addition (because it's just so much fun
and you are always looking for something better/newer/more exciting) and you
keep buying more even though you have piles of makeup that haven't been used?
Do you keep it? Swap it away? Do you manage to use it before it goes bad, or do
you end up throwing a lot of it away? I was noticing how I have way too much
makeup, lip balms/gloss, nailpolish, hair products..body lotions. Toothpaste is
the only thing I use until it is gone before buying more!

You are not alone my dear. I am the exact same way!!!! I almost feel quilty about
how much makeup I have that I will never really use. I have every HC eye quad,
every Urban Decay shadow, and I can't even begin to tell you how much more. I just
snatched up every shimmery loose powder eye shadow out at the local L'oreal counter
and I cant wait to see the new Maybelline Cosmic colors. I am sure I will buy them
all. I am just talking eyeshadows here but my obsession goes to lips, cheeks and
hair care as well. I look at it as something I collect.

Yep, I got the makeup obsession problem. And, the fragrance obsession. And,
the body product obsession. And, well, you get the idea.
I often find myself stashing old favorites when I try something new. My
Kiehl's is on standby in case the Remede doesn't work. If I don't use it, the
products move into a more hidden position. The less I use something, the
further back in the closet it gets pushed. Finally, I will sort through
everything and decide if a friend would use it, if it should be swapped or
tossed.
I have taken to returning skincare that does not work for me. I get tired of
hearing the hard sell, buying the miracle products and then having allergic
reactions or having the product be less effective than the one I was using
before. I always warn salespeople that the item will be returned if it does
not live up to the hype. Amazing how often they backpedal.
Sorry. This seems to have turned into a rant about salespeople and products.

I buy a lot of makeup, even for a teenager. But I tend to use the same few
basic products every day - SF, blush, mascara etc, that I don't change.
Mostly I just experiment with eyshadows and liners, lip products and
nailpolish. I don't tend to buy that much skincare, b/c a lot of it is
really expensive, and it's too easy to buy a product, like it, and then a
week later have to return it 'cause you've broken out. I can't be doing
with that. For me, a new lipstick or eyeshadow is a relatively inexpensive
treat, and something that keeps me entertained while I try it out, and find
new ways of wearing it. I don't have a problem with how much I have, every
3 months or so I sort through my makeup box, and give what I don't want to
my little sis' or throw it away, and recently I compiled my first swap list.
I would say that for most of us, makeup is a hobby, and unless you're
getting into serious debt, it's a non-harmful hobby.

I too, have a beauty product obsession. That's why I was so thrilled to find
this newsgroup. I'm not alone!! After 17 years my husband has accepted my
addiction , he & my son even bring me new hair products & lipsticks to try
occasionally. Does this make them co- dependant ? lol

wow, i just read all the posts about make up obsession, and i find that
so informative, now i know what keeps all of those different cosmetic
and beauty products in business...*L*.. i think that maybe, but correct
me if i'm wrong, that you buy into the advertising hype of the pretty
modeled faces who sell the make-up?..
little to me. Actually I think many of them not too pretty and can relate
to few.
all buy so much, because maybe you haven't quite found the perfect
combination of things that work for you?...and also maybe when you see a
new product, you think that the grass might be greener on the other side
so to speak?..
That's closer. But I certainly have found a darn good selection that works
but as in many areas technological changes have quickly made improved
products. Now most products have sunscreen, previously they didn't. Cream
to powder foundation is a heck of a lot easier to apply than liquid.
Products change, colors in fashion change and I enjoy the novelty. I am
not young any longer but no one will catch me in a sixties time warp.
more money on make-up and beauty if i had more extra bucks to throw
around for fun stuff like that..;)...but as for me, i have one
blush...one mascara...one foundation...one hair spray...one
deoderent...mostly just one of everything that i need as far as beauty
goes, on a daily basis..
I have probably 3 dozen blush...a similar number of mascara (many colors
and shades), half that number of foundations but the newest are the best,
deodorant so that one is in my travel bag, my bathroom and my dressing
room, and hopefully a spare or 2 so I don't run out....
ok, i do have two sets of eyeshadow compacts by cover girl...one that
has blue hues to it, and one with purple hues..so that i can alternate
according to my moods..
Guess I have a few more than two sets of moods since it is my goal to have
eyeshadow in almost all colors and shades and yes I do use them. At other
collection.
I don't particularly like combining lipsticks and have a number of them
also from Dior's Jazzy Brown to Versace Violet to Mac MOrange to Nars Funny
Face, etc.
And although I occasionally swap, throw some out and give them away I
really enjoy having them. The collection gives me pleasure. I like to
think of the colors as my paints and my face the canvas. The same as
painting for a hobby. I think you will find that a number of us have a
very serious interest in cosmetics, fragrance and fashion. We like to read
and meet makeup artists and designers. This an activity or interest
pursued outside one's regular occupation and engaged in primarily for
pleasure. I don't put a price tag on pleasure.
