Jaclyn Smith's beauty tips

The forever gorgeous Jaclyn Smith will always be Kelly Garrett of Charlie's
Angels to us. But tonight she begins a four-episode stint on The District (9
p.m., WPEC-Channel 12) as a tough civil-rights attorney who clashes with
chief of police Mannion (Craig T. Nelson).
We talked about her new show, those Angels days and, of course, cosmetics
and beauty.
Q: What are the keys to looking and feeling beautiful?
A: Being happy. You can look great and if it's not happening inside, it's
not there. I think your eyes have to tell the story. If you're loved and
things are right inside you, then you radiate something that is not about
features or physical beauty.
Q: How do you do it?
A: I feel very loved. I've been fortunate all my life. I've led a very
grounded life. My kids just set me on top of the world. As far as beauty, I
eat right and I get the proper amount of sleep.
Q: What kind of beauty products do you use?
A: Very pure things. A lot of things I get from a dermatologist. I use
things like Albolene cream, a moisturizing cleanser. I put that on when I go
into the shower. I'm into purity. I don't like a lot of preservatives put
into things. I've used the same products for 20 years. You know there are
these makeup junkies, and they have to buy the latest. I should change more
than I do, because they've improved the products. I buy a lot of products
from the drug store. I would like to do my own line. After all these years
of working with the finest makeup artists and using their products, I feel I
can bring something to the table. I like simple.
Q: What do you buy from the drug store?
A: Albolene is from the drug store. Lubriderm is from the drug store. All my
eye makeup remover, Vaseline is from the drug store. I buy my makeup base
from the drug store. I used to wear Max Factor because I was under contract
to them, but I just happened to love this foundation called New Definition.
Well, they stopped making it. I went to the department stores and tried 15,
20 foundations. Nothing worked. Well, I ended up with something from the
drug store.
Q: What essentials do you always carry in your handbag?
A: Lip gloss, but a very pure one with no petroleum. Powder in case I need
to freshen up. A pencil that's sort of nude in color. I like those.
